Webster’s Dictionary defines simpatico as “being on the same wavelength”. Listening to the duo performance of Adrean Farrugia and Joel Frahm, it’s fair to say this definition doesn’t quite go far enough in describing their sympathetic, and completely “in-sync” playing.

It’s always special to find another musician with whom you share a common musical view. Like finding a good partner in any part of life, they can read you; they can “finish your sentences”; they understand you. This describes the musical and personal relationship of my dear friends, Adrean and Joel.

On Blued Dharma, their connection is abundantly evident in their intermingling and complimentary improvisatory lines on Adrean’s original compositions as well as the standards that they perform. They are constantly playing with, around and through each other, but never on top of each other.
